How we work with clients using Datatel Colleague

When working with a client to build a framework for Institutional Intelligence, ASR follows two primary principles:

  1. Deploy a framework that is consistent with the technology direction of the institution (usually driven by the institution’s ERP choice; Datatel Colleague).
  2. Limit the institutions need to buy more ‘tools’ and leverage those that are already available within the technology they own.

Datatel has been hard at work during these last few years building new tools and extending Colleague in an effort to make data more accessible. Yet there are still many technology choices to be made and few institutions will have the financial and human resources to invest in all of these tools at once. ASR’s consultants are accelerators of institutional intelligence. We will help you understand your options and implement those that are consistent with your goal to distribute institutional intelligence more widely across campus.

Whether your institution is using UniData, SQL Server, or Oracle as its database of record, there are many directions available to your institution when it comes to institutional intelligence. Fortunately for UniData clients, Datatel has delivered a new tool (Data Orchestrator) to help extract information from UniData and reconstitute it in a normalized structure in either a SQL Server or Oracle database; thus, making it available for use with traditional business intelligence tools. ASR will help you unlock your data from Colleague, leverage the tools provided by Datatel, and guide your institution toward a culture of evidence.

Here are some of the things we can do with and for clients using Datatel Colleague:

  • Define an institutional intelligence strategy.
  • Deliver an institutional intelligence framework using Datatel’s Data Orchestrator.
  • Architect a data warehouse that is extensible and consistent with your technology direction.
  • Build a framework for predictive analytics and prospective reporting.
  • Leverage the business intelligence tools of your choice that you probably already own (e.g. SQL Server Analysis Services, Business Objects, Informer, or even Excel).
  • Surface dashboards, decision support tools, and strategic reports inside your Active Campus Portal (MS SharePoint) or other Portal.
